Summer at UC Davis offers more than just classes
UC Davis Summer Sessions offers hundreds of courses to current students and the community. But there is much more to take advantage of, if you know where to look. This year, programmatic offerings include a free writing academy, increased virtual classes, events for both in-person and remote students as well as support services from campus units.
Enroll in the writing academy
Last year, Summer Sessions launched the Summer Scholars Writing Academy. The six-week program returns this summer with sessions on brainstorming, barriers to writing, and scientific and academic writing styles. The Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers lead this year’s academy. Learn more by viewing the schedule and sign up by June 15 for Session I or July 27 for Session II.
“Writing skills are critical to all student’s success and this academy offers multiple opportunities to learn and elevate those skills with campus experts,” said Omega Lee, executive director of Summer Sessions.
Discover summer support services, both virtual and in-person
Summer on campus is quieter and may feel like a slower pace. But many offices continue to provide services to both in-person and remote students. This summer a variety of resources are planned for all enrolled students. Offerings include events hosted by Summer Sessions staff, virtual sessions led by the Career Center, Student Disability Center and the Teaching Kitchen.

Explore social events and campus resources
Opportunities abound to make new friends or discover new spaces on campus this summer. The Summer Sessions staff put together several events for students. Social programming typically includes trivia nights, speed friending, crafting, game nights and in-person and virtual cooking classes.
The Memorial Union, or MU, offers a wide range of services and resources in the heart of campus. Take advantage of open hammocks in the quad and view upcoming social events at the Memorial Union website. Also located in the MU is The Pantry, a space dedicated to addressing food insecurity for students. The Pantry offers free groceries, pantry staples and nonperishable goods. The Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center provides access to nutritious food, assistance applying for CalFresh and other social services, as well as access to economic crisis resources, case management, and immediate shelter and support for unhoused students.
